SLC22A24

Description

The SLC22A24 (solute carrier family 22 member 24) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

SLC22A24, encoded by the SLC22A24 gene, is a protein belonging to a family of transmembrane proteins that transport organic ions across cell membranes. These proteins function as uniporters, symporters, and antiporters.

SLC22A24 acts as a transmembrane transporter in the kidneys. It specifically transports conjugated steroids (like estradiol-17beta-D-glucuronide, androstanediol glucuronide, and estrone 3-sulfate), as well as bile acids (taurocholate and glycocholate). This transport is driven by an outward gradient of dicarboxylates, such as glutarate or succinate.

SLC22A24 is also known as NET46.
