SLC17A4

Description

The SLC17A4 (solute carrier family 17 member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6.

SLC17A4 functions as a membrane potential-dependent organic anion transporter, requiring low chloride ion concentrations. It mediates chloride-dependent urate transport and sodium-independent, high-affinity transport of thyroid hormones like L-thyroxine (T4) and 3,3',5-triiodo-L-thyronine (T3). Additionally, SLC17A4 can actively transport inorganic phosphate into cells via Na(+) cotransport.

SLC17A4 is also known as KAIA2138.
