SKA3
Description
The SKA3 (spindle and kinetochore associated complex subunit 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.
SKA3 is a component of the SKA1 complex, which is a microtubule-binding subcomplex of the outer kinetochore. The SKA1 complex plays a crucial role in ensuring proper chromosome segregation during cell division. It directly interacts with microtubules and forms oligomeric assemblies, enabling the movement of microspheres along microtubules in a depolymerization-coupled manner. SKA3 facilitates the oligomerization of the SKA1 complex in the presence of microtubules. The interaction with the ndc-80 complex enhances the SKA1 complex's affinity for microtubules, potentially allowing the ndc-80 complex to track depolymerizing microtubules.
SKA3 is also known as C13orf3, RAMA1.
