SH3PXD2A plays a role in invadopodia and podosome formation, which are structures involved in extracellular matrix degradation and cancer cell invasion. It binds to matrix metalloproteinases (ADAMs), NADPH oxidases (NOXs), and phosphoinositides, acting as an organizer protein that facilitates reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation and localization. In collaboration with ADAM12, it contributes to the neurotoxic effects of amyloid-beta peptide.
