SGPP2
Description
The SGPP2 (sphingosine-1-phosphate phosphatase 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
SGPP2 exhibits specific phosphohydrolase activity towards sphingoid base 1-phosphates, particularly displaying high activity against dihydrosphingosine-1-phosphate and sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) in vitro. Its activity is crucial for efficient sphingosine recycling within the sphingolipid synthesis pathway. SGPP2 potentially plays a role in attenuating intracellular S1P signaling and might contribute to pro-inflammatory signaling. Moreover, it is involved in regulating pancreatic islet beta-cell endoplasmic reticulum stress and proliferation.
SGPP2 is also known as SPP2, SPPase2.
