SFXN5
Description
The SFXN5 (sideroflexin 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
Sideroflexin-5 is a mitochondrial amino-acid transporter that also transports citrate. It does not act as a serine transporter and is not able to mediate transport of serine into mitochondria. In brown adipose tissue, it plays a role in the regulation of UCP1-dependent thermogenesis, likely by supporting mitochondrial glycerol-3-phosphate utilization.
SFXN5 is also known as BBG-TCC, SLC56A5.
