SETD4

Description

The SETD4 (SET domain containing 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

SETD4 is a histone-lysine N-methyltransferase that plays a crucial role in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, and inflammatory responses. It controls inflammation by modifying histone H3 at lysine 4 (H3K4), leading to the activation of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL6 and TNF-alpha. Additionally, SETD4 is involved in stem cell quiescence by promoting heterochromatin formation through trimethylation of histone H4 at lysine 20 (H4K20me3). Furthermore, SETD4 participates in the proliferation, migration, paracrine signaling, and myogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs).

SETD4 is also known as C21orf18, C21orf27.
