SERPINA4

Description

The SERPINA4 (serpin family A member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

Kallistatin is a protein encoded by the SERPINA4 gene in humans. It has a distinctive structure with three folded beta segments and eight helical structures, containing two functional domains: an active site and a heparin-binding site. Kallistatin interacts with several receptors, including integrin beta3, lipoprotein receptor-related protein 6 (LRP6), nucleolin, and Krüppel-like factor 4 (KLF4).

Kallistatin inhibits the amidolytic and kininogenase activities of tissue kallikrein in humans. This inhibition occurs through the formation of a stable complex between kallistatin and tissue kallikrein. This complex is equimolar, resistant to heat and SDS, and involves the cleavage of kallistatin at its reactive site by tissue kallikrein, resulting in a small C-terminal fragment.

SERPINA4 is also known as KAL, KLST, KST, PI-4, PI4, kallistatin.
