SERP2

Description

The SERP2 (stress associated endoplasmic reticulum protein family member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 13.

SERP2 aids in the movement of proteins into the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), a cellular compartment where proteins fold and are modified. It safeguards unfolded proteins from being broken down during ER stress, a state of cellular strain. SERP2 might help attach sugar molecules (glycosylation) to proteins after ER stress subsides. It may also influence the placement of sugar attachment sites on proteins.

SERP2 is also known as C13orf21, bA269C23.1.
