SENP7

Description

The SENP7 (SUMO specific peptidase 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 3.

Sentrin-specific protease 7 is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the SENP7 gene.

SENP7 acts as a positive regulator of the cGAS-STING pathway by removing SUMO modifications (desumoylation) from the protein CGAS. This desumoylation enhances CGAS's ability to bind DNA, leading to its oligomerization and activation. SENP7 primarily removes SUMO2 and SUMO3 modifications from target proteins, but not SUMO1. It also breaks down poly-SUMO2 and poly-SUMO3 chains. However, SENP7 is not very efficient at processing full-length SUMO proteins into their mature forms.

SENP7 is also known as -.
