SEC11C

Description

The SEC11C (SEC11 homolog C, signal peptidase complex subunit) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

SEC11C is a key component of the signal peptidase complex (SPC), which is responsible for removing N-terminal signal sequences from nascent proteins as they enter the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) lumen. SEC11C specifically targets and cleaves signal peptides containing a hydrophobic alpha-helix (h-region) that is shorter than 18-20 amino acids.

SEC11C is also known as SEC11L3, SPC21, SPCS4C.
