SEC11A

Description

The SEC11A (SEC11 homolog A, signal peptidase complex subunit) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

SEC11A is a catalytic component of the signal peptidase complex (SPC) that removes N-terminal signal sequences from newly synthesized proteins as they enter the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It specifically targets signal peptides with a hydrophobic alpha-helix (h-region) shorter than 18-20 amino acids.

SEC11A is also known as 1810012E07Rik, SEC11L1, SPC18, SPCS4A, sid2895.
