SDC2

Description

The SDC2 (syndecan 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 8.

Syndecan-2 is a protein encoded by the SDC2 gene in humans. It is a transmembrane (type I) heparan sulfate proteoglycan and belongs to the syndecan proteoglycan family. Syndecans are involved in cell binding, cell signaling, and cytoskeletal organization. They also serve as receptors for the HIV-1 tat protein, facilitating its internalization. Syndecan-2 functions as an integral membrane protein, participating in cell proliferation, cell migration, and cell-matrix interactions through its receptor for extracellular matrix proteins. Altered expression of syndecan-2 has been observed in various tumor types.

Syndecan-2 is a cell surface proteoglycan that plays a role in regulating dendritic arbor morphogenesis.

SDC2 is also known as CD362, HSPG, HSPG1, SYND2.
