SCGB3A2

Description

The SCGB3A2 (secretoglobin family 3A member 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

Secretoglobin family 3A member 2 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SCGB3A2 gene.

SCGB3A2 is a secreted cytokine-like protein that binds to the scavenger receptor MARCO. It can also bind to pathogens, including the Gram-positive bacterium L.monocytogenes, the Gram-negative bacterium P.aeruginosa, and yeast. SCGB3A2 strongly inhibits phospholipase A2 (PLA2G1B) activity and exhibits anti-inflammatory effects in respiratory epithelium. It also possesses anti-fibrotic activity in the lung and may play a role in fetal lung development and maturation. SCGB3A2 promotes branching morphogenesis during early stages of lung development. In the pituitary, it may inhibit the production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).

SCGB3A2 is also known as LU103, PNSP1, UGRP1, pnSP-1.
