SCARNA4

Description

The SCARNA4 (small Cajal body-specific RNA 4) is a ncRNA gene located on chromosome 1.

SCARNA4 is a small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) that is involved in the biogenesis of ribosomal RNA (rRNA). SnoRNAs are a class of non-coding RNAs that guide the modification of rRNA, primarily by directing the methylation of specific nucleotides. SCARNA4 is thought to guide the methylation of uridine residues in rRNA, specifically at position 2503 in the 28S rRNA. This methylation event is crucial for the proper folding and function of the ribosome, the cellular machinery responsible for protein synthesis.
