RTN4RL1

Description

The RTN4RL1 (reticulon 4 receptor like 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

RTN4RL1, also known as Nogo receptor-like 2, is a cell surface receptor involved in various aspects of brain development and neuronal function. It plays a role in regulating axon regeneration in the adult central nervous system, contributes to normal axon migration, and participates in the formation of the corpus callosum. RTN4RL1 protects motoneurons against apoptosis, potentially mediated by myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG). It also inhibits neurite outgrowth and axon regeneration by binding to neuronal chondroitin sulfate proteoglycans. Further, RTN4RL1 binds heparin and, similar to other members of its family, restricts the number of dendritic spines and synapses formed during brain development. Its signaling pathway activates Rho, leading to reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton.

RTN4RL1 is also known as NGRH2, NgR3.
