RTN1

Description

The RTN1 (reticulon 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.

RTN1 (Reticulon-1), also known as NSP (neuroendocrine-specific protein), is a human protein encoded by the RTN1 gene. It belongs to the reticulon family of genes, whose members are associated with the endoplasmic reticulum and play roles in neuroendocrine secretion and membrane trafficking in neuroendocrine cells. Different isoforms of RTN1 are generated through alternative splicing. This diversity likely arises from multiple promoters rather than alternative splicing of internal exons.

RTN1 inhibits the processing of amyloid precursor protein, potentially by blocking the activity of the BACE1 enzyme.

RTN1 is also known as NSP.
