RPTN

Description

The RPTN (repetin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

Repetin is an extracellular matrix protein expressed in the epidermis. In humans, it is encoded by the RPTN gene. Repetin belongs to the S100 fused-type protein family and contains an EF hand structural domain. It plays a crucial role in the formation of the cornified cell envelope. Repetin is a multifunctional epidermal matrix protein and is capable of reversibly binding calcium. The RPTN gene is 5,634 bases long, located between 152,126,071 and 152,131,704 base pairs from the pter region on the chromosome. It is oriented on the minus strand.
