RPS21
Description
The RPS21 (ribosomal protein S21) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.
RPS21 is a gene that encodes a protein called 40S ribosomal protein S21. This protein is a component of the small 40S ribosomal subunit, which is one of the two subunits that make up ribosomes. Ribosomes are responsible for protein synthesis in cells. RPS21 belongs to the S21E family of ribosomal proteins. The protein is located in the cytoplasm. There are multiple processed pseudogenes of RPS21 dispersed throughout the genome.
RPS21 is a component of the small ribosomal subunit. The ribosome is a large ribonucleoprotein complex responsible for the synthesis of proteins in the cell. (PMID:23636399, PMID:25901680, PMID:25957688)
RPS21 is also known as HLDF, S21, eS21.
