RPL28

Description

The RPL28 (ribosomal protein L28) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

The human RPL28 gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is part of the 60S subunit of ribosomes, the cellular organelles responsible for protein synthesis. Ribosomes consist of two subunits, a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit, which are composed of RNA and numerous proteins. RPL28 belongs to the L28E family of ribosomal proteins and is located in the cytoplasm. While variations in RPL28 expression have been observed in colorectal cancers compared to normal tissues, no correlation with disease severity has been found. There are multiple pseudogenes of RPL28 scattered throughout the human genome.

RPL28 is a component of the large ribosomal subunit, which is responsible for protein synthesis in the cell. (PMID: 12962325, PMID: 23636399, PMID: 32669547)

RPL28 is also known as L28, eL28.
