RNPEP

Description

The RNPEP (arginyl aminopeptidase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.

RNPEP is the human gene encoding Aminopeptidase B, an enzyme involved in the breakdown of proteins.

RNPEP encodes an exopeptidase that specifically cleaves arginine or lysine residues from the N-terminal end of various peptide substrates. These substrates include Arg(0)-Leu-enkephalin, Arg(0)-Met-enkephalin, and Arg(-1)-Lys(0)-somatostatin-14. Additionally, RNPEP can hydrolyze leukotriene A4 (LTA-4) to form leukotriene B4 (LTB-4), although this activity is based on similarity to other enzymes.

RNPEP is also known as AP-B, APB.
