RNMT

Description

The RNMT (RNA guanine-7 methyltransferase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 18.

RNMT, also known as mRNA cap guanine-N7 methyltransferase, is an enzyme that catalyzes the methylation of the N7 position of the guanine in the 5‘ cap of mRNA. This reaction uses S-adenosyl methionine as a methyl donor and produces S-adenosylhomocysteine. RNMT belongs to the family of transferases, specifically those transferring one-carbon group methyltransferases. In humans, RNMT is encoded by the RNMT gene.

Catalytic subunit of the mRNA-capping methyltransferase RNMT:RAMAC complex that methylates the N7 position of the added guanosine to the 5‘-cap structure of mRNAs. Binds RNA containing 5‘-terminal GpppC.

RNMT is also known as CMT1, CMT1c, MET, Met, N7-MTase, RG7MT1, cm1p, hCMT1, hMet.
