RND1

Description

The RND1 (Rho family GTPase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

RND1 encodes a small (~21 kDa) signaling G protein, specifically a GTPase, belonging to the Rnd subgroup of the Rho family of GTPases. It contributes to regulating the organization of the actin cytoskeleton in response to extracellular growth factors. RND1 interacts with several proteins, including GRB7, PLXNB1, PDE6D, ARHGAP5, and UBXD5.

RND1 lacks intrinsic GTPase activity and displays a low affinity for GDP, leading to constitutive GTP binding. It plays a key role in regulating actin cytoskeleton rearrangements. Notably, it induces the formation of neuritic processes dependent on Rac signaling, partially achieved by disrupting cortical actin filaments. This disruption results in the formation of multiple neuritic processes extending from the cell body.

RND1 is also known as ARHS, RHO6, RHOS.
