RNASE7
Description
The RNASE7 (ribonuclease A family member 7) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 14.
RNASE7 exhibits potent ribonuclease activity. It has broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against a variety of pathogenic microorganisms, including uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC). RNASE7 is remarkably potent against vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium, with a lethal dose of 90% less than 30 nM. RNASE7 causes loss of bacterial membrane integrity and likely contributes to urinary tract sterility. Its bactericidal activity is independent of its ribonuclease activity.
RNASE7 is also known as RAE1.
