RHOQ
Description
The RHOQ (ras homolog family member Q) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 2.
RhoQ is a protein encoded by the RHOQ gene in humans. It is a member of the RAS superfamily of small GTP-binding proteins and plays a role in insulin-stimulated glucose uptake. In melanocytic cells, RHOQ gene expression may be regulated by MITF. RHOQ interacts with various proteins including EXOC7, GOPC, PARD6B, WASL, CDC42EP2, TRIP10, and CDC42EP3.
RHOQ is a small GTPase that cycles between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states. When active, it binds to effector proteins, influencing cellular responses. RHOQ participates in epithelial cell polarization and may contribute to the trafficking of CFTR to the plasma membrane. It also promotes the formation of filopodia, thin actin-rich protrusions.
