RCVRN

Description

The RCVRN (recoverin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 17.

RCVRN plays a critical role in phototransduction, the process by which light is converted into electrical signals in the retina. It acts as a calcium sensor, regulating phototransduction in both cone and rod photoreceptor cells. Specifically, RCVRN modulates the sensitivity of cone photoreceptors to light, particularly in dark and dim conditions. In response to low light levels, RCVRN prolongs the activation of rhodopsin, a key protein in rod photoreceptor cells, by inhibiting its phosphorylation. This enhancement of rhodopsin activity improves rod photoreceptor sensitivity and facilitates the detection of changes and motion in both dim and bright light.

RCVRN is also known as RCV1.
