RBM38
Description
The RBM38 (RNA binding motif protein 38) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 20.
RBM38 is an RNA-binding protein that specifically interacts with the 3'-UTR of CDKN1A transcripts, stabilizing them and acting as a mediator of the p53/TP53 family in regulating CDKN1A expression. CDKN1A, a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, is transcriptionally regulated by p53/TP53 to induce cell cycle arrest. Specifically, isoform 1 of RBM38, but not isoform 2, can induce cell cycle arrest in the G1 phase and maintain the stability of CDKN1A transcripts activated by p53/TP53. RBM38 also functions as an mRNA splicing factor, specifically regulating the expression of FGFR2-IIIb, an epithelial cell-specific isoform of FGFR2. It plays a role in myogenic differentiation.
RBM38 is also known as HSRNASEB, RNPC1, SEB4B, SEB4D, dJ800J21.2.
