RBM3

Description

The RBM3 (RNA binding motif protein 3) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome X.

RBM3, or Putative RNA-binding protein 3, is a human protein encoded by the RBM3 gene. It belongs to the glycine-rich RNA-binding protein family and contains one RNA recognition motif (RRM) domain. Its expression is triggered by cold shock and low oxygen tension. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 1. RBM3 is a cold-induced RNA binding protein involved in mRNA biogenesis and exerts anti-apoptotic effects. It is present in all analyzed human tissues and primarily localized to the nucleoplasm. RBM3 is a proto-oncogene linked to tumor progression and metastasis, making it a potential cancer biomarker. High levels of RBM3 protein in tumor cells are associated with favorable prognosis in colorectal cancer.

RBM3 is also known as IS1-RNPL, RNPL.
