RBFOX1

Description

The RBFOX1 (RNA binding fox-1 homolog 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.

RBFOX1 (RNA binding protein, fox-1 homolog) is a human protein encoded by the RBFOX1 gene. It was initially studied in other organisms like nematodes, fruit flies, and zebrafish due to its role in development and embryology. The gene's name comes from its role in sex determination in nematodes, where it was called 'Feminizing locus On X' (Fox-1). In fruit flies, it's known as CG3206, and in zebrafish, it's essential for muscle development. RBFOX1 was discovered in humans because of its interaction with ataxin-2. The gene is located on chromosome 16 and has 30 exons. The RBFOX1 protein consists of 397 amino acids and has a molecular weight of 42,784 Da.

RBFOX1 is also known as 2BP1, A2BP1, FOX-1, FOX1, HRNBP1.
