PZP

Description

The PZP (PZP alpha-2-macroglobulin like) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

PZP may refer to:

PZP inhibits all four classes of proteinases through a unique 'trapping' mechanism. It features a 'bait region' containing specific cleavage sites for various proteinases. When a proteinase cleaves the bait region, PZP undergoes a conformational change, trapping the proteinase. The trapped enzyme retains activity against low molecular weight substrates but its activity against high molecular weight substrates is significantly reduced. After cleavage in the bait region, a thioester bond is hydrolyzed, facilitating the covalent binding of PZP to the proteinase.

PZP is also known as CPAMD6.
