PWWP2A

Description

The PWWP2A (PWWP domain containing 2A) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 5.

PWWP2A is a human protein encoded by the PWWP2A gene.

PWWP2A, a chromatin-binding protein, acts as a bridge between distinct nucleosome components (H3K36me3 or H2A.Z) and chromatin-modifying complexes, influencing histone acetylation levels at actively transcribed genes. It competes with CHD4 and MBD3 for interaction with MTA1, forming a NuRD subcomplex that prevents the full NuRD complex (containing CHD4 and MBD3) from forming. This leads to the recruitment of HDACs to gene promoters, resulting in the deacetylation of nearby H3K27 and H2A.Z. PWWP2A plays a role in promoting transcriptional elongation and suppressing spurious transcription initiation by regulating histone acetylation. It is essential for proper mitosis progression.

PWWP2A is also known as MST101.
