PWP2

Description

The PWP2 (PWP2 small subunit processome component) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 21.

Periodic tryptophan protein 2 homolog is a protein that in humans is encoded by the PWP2 gene. This protein is involved in the assembly of the small subunit of the ribosome.

PWP2 is part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, a complex that plays a critical role in the assembly of the small eukaryotic ribosomal subunit. The SSU processome assembles in the nucleolus and involves numerous ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone, and ribosomal proteins that interact with the nascent pre-rRNA. These components work together to ensure correct RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements, and cleavage, as well as targeted degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA by the RNA exosome.

PWP2 is also known as EHOC-17, PWP2H, UTP1.
