PTPRE

Description

The PTPRE (protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type E) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.

PTPRE, the gene encoding Receptor-type tyrosine-protein phosphatase epsilon, produces an enzyme involved in various cellular processes, including growth, differentiation, cell cycle, and cancer development. This protein belongs to the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. Two isoforms are produced from the PTPRE gene: one is a receptor-type PTP with a short extracellular domain, a transmembrane region, and two catalytic domains; the other is a nonreceptor-type isoform with a unique hydrophilic N-terminus. Research on the similar gene in mice suggests that this PTP plays a regulatory role in RAS-related signal transduction pathways, cytokine-induced SATA signaling, and the activation of voltage-gated K+ channels. PTPRE is known to interact with KCNB1.

PTPRE is also known as HPTPE, PTPE, R-PTP-EPSILON.
