PSTK
Description
The PSTK (phosphoseryl-tRNA kinase) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 10.
PSTK (O-phosphoseryl-tRNASec kinase) is an enzyme that catalyzes the phosphorylation of L-seryl-tRNASec to O-phospho-L-seryl-tRNASec using ATP as a phosphate donor. This reaction is essential for the biosynthesis of selenocysteine, a rare amino acid found in some proteins. In archaea and eukarya, selenocysteine formation occurs through a two-step process.
PSTK specifically phosphorylates seryl-tRNA(Sec) to O-phosphoseryl-tRNA(Sec), an activated intermediate for selenocysteine biosynthesis.
PSTK is also known as C10orf89.
