PRRX2

Description

The PRRX2 (paired related homeobox 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.

PRRX2 encodes a DNA-binding protein that belongs to the paired homeobox protein family. It's found in proliferating fetal fibroblasts and the developing dermal layer, with expression decreasing in adult skin. PRRX2 levels increase during fetal wound healing, but not adult wound healing, suggesting a possible role in controlling dermal regeneration and preventing scarring. Its expression patterns support a role in fetal skin development and potentially cell proliferation.

PRRX2 is also known as PMX2, PRX2.
