Description
The UBE2T (ubiquitin conjugating enzyme E2 T) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 1.
UBE2T is an E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzyme that accepts ubiquitin from the E1 complex and catalyzes its covalent attachment to other proteins. It promotes monoubiquitination, which is the addition of a single ubiquitin molecule to a target protein. UBE2T plays a role in mitomycin-C (MMC)-induced DNA repair. It is also a specific E2 for the Fanconi anemia complex, associating with the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase FANCL and catalyzing monoubiquitination of FANCD2. This is an essential step in the DNA damage pathway. UBE2T also mediates monoubiquitination of FANCL and FANCI. It may contribute to ubiquitination and degradation of BRCA1. In vitro, UBE2T promotes polyubiquitination using all 7 ubiquitin Lys residues, but it may prefer Lys-11-, Lys-27-, Lys-48- and Lys-63-linked polyubiquitination.
