TPRN
Description
The TPRN (taperin) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 9.
TPRN, also known as Taperin, is a protein involved in the maintenance of stereocilia, the hair-like structures in the inner ear essential for hearing. It plays a crucial role in regulating actin dynamics, a key component of the cytoskeleton, within these stereocilia. TPRN forms ring-like structures at the base of stereocilia and binds to actin filaments, contributing to their stability. Additionally, it acts as an inhibitor of the PPP1CA phosphatase, an enzyme involved in cellular signaling. TPRN is also recruited to sites of DNA damage, suggesting a potential role in DNA repair.
TPRN is also known as C9orf75, DFNB79.
