TPK1

Description

The TPK1 (thiamin pyrophosphokinase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7.

TPK1 is a human gene that encodes an enzyme called thiamine pyrophosphokinase 1. This enzyme exists as a homodimer and is responsible for converting thiamine into thiamine pyrophosphate. Different isoforms of the protein are produced from alternative splicing of the gene.

TPK1 catalyzes the conversion of thiamine to thiamine pyrophosphate, a vital cofactor for key metabolic enzymes. It also has the ability to convert pyrithiamine to pyrithiamine pyrophosphate.

TPK1 is also known as HTPK1, PP20, THMD5.
