THOC6
Description
The THOC6 (THO complex subunit 6) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 16.
THOC6 is a component of the THO subcomplex within the TREX complex. This complex plays a crucial role in linking mRNA transcription, processing, and nuclear export. It specifically binds to spliced mRNA, not unspliced pre-mRNA, and is recruited to spliced mRNAs via a transcription-independent mechanism. TREX binds to mRNA upstream of the exon-junction complex (EJC) and is recruited to a region near the 5' end of the mRNA in a splicing- and cap-dependent manner. This complex facilitates mRNA export to the cytoplasm through the TAP/NFX1 pathway. The TREX complex is essential for the export of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) intronless mRNAs and infectious virus production. THOC6 also plays a role in negatively regulating apoptosis and is involved in brain development.
