TERB2

Description

The TERB2 (telomere repeat binding bouquet formation protein 2) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

TERB2 is a meiosis-specific protein that plays a critical role in attaching telomeres to the inner nuclear membrane during meiosis. This attachment is essential for homologous chromosome pairing and synapsis. TERB2 is part of the MAJIN-TERB1-TERB2 complex, which mediates the exchange of telomere caps by attaching telomeric DNA to the inner nuclear membrane and replacing the protective cap of telomeric chromosomes. The complex first associates with telomeric DNA and the shelterin/telosome complex during early meiosis. As meiosis progresses into prophase, the complex matures and facilitates the release of the shelterin/telosome complex from telomeric DNA.

TERB2 is also known as C15orf43, SPGF59.
