SYNE4

Description

The SYNE4 (spectrin repeat containing nuclear envelope family member 4) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.

SYNE4, also known as Nesprin-4, is a crucial component of the LINC (Linker of Nucleoskeleton and Cytoskeleton) complex, which bridges the nuclear lamina and the cytoskeleton. This connection facilitates the transmission of mechanical forces across the nuclear envelope and plays a vital role in nuclear movement and positioning. SYNE4 acts as a kinesin cargo, providing a binding site for kinesin-1 at the nuclear envelope. This interaction potentially contributes to the development of secretory epithelial morphology by promoting kinesin-dependent apical migration of the centrosome and Golgi apparatus, and basal localization of the nucleus.

SYNE4 is also known as C19orf46, DFNB76, KASH4, Nesp4.
