SLC35C1

Description

The SLC35C1 (solute carrier family 35 member C1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.

SLC35C1 (Solute carrier family 35 member C1) is a human gene that encodes the GDP-fucose transporter 1 protein. Defects in this gene are linked to Congenital disorder of glycosylation type IIc. The protein is involved in the transport of GDP-fucose, a crucial molecule for glycosylation, from the cytoplasm into the Golgi lumen.

SLC35C1 acts as an antiporter, specifically transporting GDP-l-fucose into the Golgi lumen while simultaneously transporting GMP in the opposite direction. This process is crucial for the import of GDP-fucose from the cytoplasm, as evidenced by research findings (PubMed:11326279, PubMed:11326280, PubMed:27738779).

SLC35C1 is also known as CDG2C, FUCT1.
