SLC28A1

Description

The SLC28A1 (solute carrier family 28 member 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

Concentrative nucleoside transporter 1 (CNT1) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the SLC28A1 gene.

SLC28A1 encodes a sodium-dependent nucleoside transporter that is responsible for the uptake of pyrimidine nucleosides, such as uridine, thymidine, and cytidine, into cells. It also transports adenosine, albeit with lower efficiency. The transporter uses the sodium electrochemical gradient across the plasma membrane to drive nucleoside uptake. This transporter is classified as the N2/cit subtype of nucleoside transport system.

SLC28A1 is also known as CNT1, HCNT1, URCTU.
