REC114

Description

The REC114 (REC114 meiotic recombination protein) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 15.

REC114 plays a crucial role in the formation of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) within unsynapsed regions during meiotic recombination. It achieves this by forming a complex with IHO1 and MEI4, which collectively activate DSB formation in these regions. This activation is essential for ensuring the completion of synapsis. REC114 is vital for both spermatogenesis and oogenesis.

REC114 is also known as C15orf60, CT147, OOMD10, OZEMA10.
