PRDM5

Description

The PRDM5 (PR/SET domain 5) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 4.

PRDM5 is a sequence-specific DNA-binding transcription factor that represses gene expression. It achieves this repression by recruiting histone methyltransferase EHMT2/G9A and histone deacetylases, such as HDAC1, to target genes. This protein plays a role in regulating genes involved in hematopoiesis, including both protein-coding genes and microRNAs (miRNAs). Additionally, PRDM5 may control the expression of proteins essential for extracellular matrix development and maintenance. These proteins include fibrillar collagens (COL4A1 and COL11A1), connective tissue components (HAPLN1), and molecules that regulate cell migration and adhesion (EDIL3 and TGFB2). PRDM5 has been observed to induce G2/M cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancerous cells.

PRDM5 is also known as BCS2, PFM2.
