PHC1

Description

The PHC1 (polyhomeotic homolog 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

Polyhomeotic-like protein 1 is a protein encoded by the PHC1 gene in humans. It is homologous to the Drosophila polyhomeotic gene, which is a member of the Polycomb group of genes. PHC1 is part of a multimeric protein complex that includes EDR2 and the vertebrate Polycomb protein BMI1. It shares two highly conserved domains with EDR2 and the Drosophila polyhomeotic protein, which are involved in protein-protein interactions and may mediate heterodimerization between PHC1 and EDR2. Mutations in PHC1 have been associated with cases of primary microcephaly. PHC1 has been shown to interact with BMI1 and PHC2.

PHC1 is also known as EDR1, HPH1, MCPH11, RAE28.
