Description
The NADSYN1 (NAD synthetase 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 11.
NADSYN1 is a human gene encoding the enzyme glutamine-dependent NAD(+) synthetase. NAD, a crucial coenzyme, participates in metabolic redox reactions, acts as a precursor for signaling molecules, and serves as a substrate for protein modifications. NAD synthetase (EC 6.3.5.1) catalyzes the final step of NAD biosynthesis, converting nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide (NaAD) into NAD.
NADSYN1 catalyzes the final step in the de novo synthesis of NAD, converting deamido-NAD to NAD using ATP and L-glutamine as energy and nitrogen sources, respectively.
NADSYN1 is also known as VCRL3.
