IKBKB

Description

The IKBKB gene encodes for the protein IκB kinase β (IKKβ), a key component of the NF-κB signaling pathway. This pathway plays a vital role in regulating immune and inflammatory responses, cell survival, and development. IKKβ is activated by various stimuli, such as cytokines, microbial products, and stress, leading to the phosphorylation and degradation of IκBα, an inhibitor of NF-κB. This allows NF-κB to translocate into the nucleus and activate the transcription of target genes, ultimately contributing to the regulation of inflammation and immune responses.

Associated Diseases

Did you know?

Mutations in the IKBKB gene can cause a rare genetic disorder known as inhibitor of kappa B kinase beta deficiency, characterized by severe immunodeficiency and recurrent infections.
