GP6 : glycoprotein VI platelet
Description
The GP6 (glycoprotein VI platelet) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 19.
The GP6 gene provides instructions for making a protein called glycoprotein VI (GPVI). GPVI is a receptor protein embedded in the outer membrane of platelets, which are crucial for blood clot formation. GPVI binds to collagen, a protein found on blood vessel walls, initiating clot formation and signaling for more platelets to join the process. GPVI also binds to fibrin, the primary protein in blood clots.
GP6 is also known as BDPLT11, GPIV, GPVI.
