GATC

Description

The GATC (glutamyl-tRNA amidotransferase subunit C) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 12.

GATC, a human gene, encodes for a protein involved in the accurate charging of tRNA molecules with the amino acid glutamine within mitochondria. This process is essential for the correct translation of genetic information into proteins.

GATC plays a crucial role in the accurate charging of Gln-tRNA(Gln) within mitochondria. This process involves the conversion of misacylated Glu-tRNA(Gln) to the correct Gln-tRNA(Gln) form through transamidation. The reaction requires the presence of glutamine and ATP and proceeds through an activated intermediate, gamma-phospho-Glu-tRNA(Gln).

GATC is also known as 15E1.2, COXPD42.
